Samenvatting
Presents the concept and scope of the Rembrandt Database (www.rembrandtdatabase.org), an online research resource with art historical, technical, conservation, and scientific information and documentation on Rembrandt's paintings in collections all over the world. Discussed here are the origins of and the reasons for this initiative as well as its mission and scope. The contribution describes the content development for the Web site (through a joint effort of museums, research institutions, and individual scholars); the type of content that is presented; and the technology infrastructure used for this. Furthermore, it discusses possibilities for the future growth and further development of the Rembrandt Database--also in relation to similar initiatives.
