SamenvattingThis research focuses on the conservation and presentation of one linoleum-covered table as part of the UNESCO Press Room ensemble. The Press Room interior was designed in 1958 by Gerrit Thomas Rietveld (1888-1964) and can be seen as gesamtkunstwerk because of the special use of materials, colours and form. In 1982 the room was discarded from the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris and the remaining furniture was brought to the Dutch Cultural Heritage Agency (Rijksdienst voor het Cultureel Erfgoed – RCE). Currently, the RCE intends to permanently reinstall the Press Room within a museum. By researching the values and alterations to one of the remaining linoleum-covered tables in relation to the complete Press Room the following question will be answered: How should the Press Room be presented in relation to its most important values? Through visual analysis in combination with literature-, archival research, (testimonial) interviews, digital 3D analysis and technical analysis the ideal state of the table in relation to the Press Room was investigated. The results suggest that it is possible to conserve and present the Press Room in relation to its most important values.
