SamenvattingAs a follow-up of the study on the effects of various storage methods on the preservation of new polyisoprene rubber, this study compares the effect of cool storage in the presence of oxygen with anoxic storage at room temperature on aged polyisoprene rubber. Comparing the preservation effectiveness of cool storage and anoxia, both work out to be beneficial. Although they do not stop degradation, they slow down the aging process. For small objects or a small number of objects, anoxic storage in a bag has the lowest costs in terms of financial expenses and carbon emissions. For large objects or a large number of objects, an anoxia chamber or a refrigerator chamber is a good choice, with anoxia having the overall best cost-effectiveness. Practical and logistical considerations and the possibility of combining storage of rubber with other collections, such as photographs, may steer the choice towards cool storage. The paper concludes with a comparison of factors that play a role in decision-making for the storage of rubber and elastomers in general.
